I personally think Apple should use OpenStreetMap. I don't think there's any licensing issue as long as the app links back to the site. And, assuming the main reason of developing their own navigation app is to free them from Google, it's not like OpenStreetMap is a competitor to them. They can probably still put ads in it without violating the license.

Apple bashing will continue to get +5 and any negative comment about Google will continue to get -1 as long as Google has control of Slashdot. This is going to happen over and over again to anybody who dare speaks against Google.

The Slashdot that I'm reading has somebody saying "Apple lovers must be stopped" "retarded articles" and "BS Apple stories" and doesn't get modded Flamebait. It gets a +5. My comment that Google is gaming this system gets modded Flamebait. I think it illustrates my point. And I think this allowing single companies to direct the moderation will be the death of Slashdot.

If rooting means I could install or uninstall whatever apps I wanted, and set each permission individually, then I wouldn't really need to install an alternative version of Android on the tablet.

I'd rather read a pointless Apple story than a Google story in which any anti-Google comment gets modded away and any pro-Google comment gets modded up, regardless of merit. Pointless is better than malicious or deceptive.

They shouldn't market it as the decentralized network. They should market it as the network with no advertisements, no changing your settings at any given moment, and without that stupid timeline Facebook added in it's panic over Twitter. If you take the time, you can come up with a long list of things people hate about Facebook that aren't really necessary for a social network to exist.
