You are really playing fast and loose with the facts here to try and deny reality. I fully understand that people often charge only up to 80% for battery longevity and my point remains the same. This means they are stopping more often. The fact is you are forced to spend more time sitting around waiting for your vehicle to be fueled up than you will with gas. You can massage the numbers and pretend people like to hang out at charge stations to feel better about it but you are only fooling yourself.

Ummm there is no difference in meaning between saying "planning their next vehicle to be an IC" and "likely to switch back" it's the same thing. If you are likely to switch back then you at least have a tentative plan for your next vehicle to be an IC. The real reason they won't run out of customers is government mandates.

What's not to get? You add a huge amount of time to your trip by having sit around a charger every few hundred miles meanwhile you can refuel and continue on your way in 10 minutes with gas. Then there is the availability of chargers. The charging station network can get the job done but one has to be careful to plan it out properly for some long rural stretches. The same can be true with finding gas out in the middle nowhere but not quite as bad.

Given the amount of time you have spend there for a charge people will likely will continue to plan out their stops. I think the gas station business is going to morph in a charging station with amenities for all the bored people business so it will be about planning what you want to do while it charges and how safe is that area.
