Project management on software projects is inherently complex. Personally I've lost count of the number of multi-million dollar software projects that I've seen just fail.

Programming estimates are wildly inaccurate, because there is rarely a tangible link between a specification and how long it will take to write. The industry simply doesn't have the maturity and deterministic design that other professions have. I'm not sure what the fix is, but if it was simple it would have been done already.

You're confident enough to get sweary and hand-wave a bunch of research from very smart people, despite being wrong.

1) Covid-19 is caused by a coronavirus, which is a completely different family of viruses to influenza. The are structurally different. Relatives of Covid-19 include SARS and MERS, not H1N1.

2) No-one is assuming 100% effectiveness or permanent ongoing protection.

Because not every diesel passenger vehicle is as bad as a 84 Escort?

Modern turbo diesels with appropriately matched gearboxes have excellent torque and can get good acceleration, power and fuel efficiency. I drive a small diesel hatchback and it's great on the highway, hand down beats many petrol cars I've owned.

Strangely even in Australia where it is compulsory to vote, you must enroll first. You also have to update your address with the electoral commission if you move, as that will determine which electoral region you're in.

It's odd that there's not some other central register of eligible voters, but that's the way it is. A small minority of people simply don't enroll.

They don't design a pandemic response to cater for the people that are healthy / asymptomatic. I'm not sure why this needs explaining but:
1) No deaths are acceptable.
2) We don't fully understand the long term complications from this virus, and we're seeing some nasty complications even in realtively mild cases.
3) There no proof yet that long term immunity can be acquired
4) The more people that get infected, the greater chance of mutations leading to multiple waves.

I don't understand why people are pushing naturally acquired herd immunity as a valid valid strategy.

In order to reach immunity without a vaccine, you have to let 70 - 90% of your population catch the disease - the one we are trying to avoid. You then have to accept the fatalities and long term complications across that 70-90%, a staggering number of casualties.

A *disturbing* number of people seem to be OK with that kind of collateral damage versus just staying home and/or wearing masks for a couple of months. Has society become less compassionate, or is it a product of some countries not having a social security safety net.

That said you still kind of have a point. Making the rentention mechnism more tolerant would have helped.

A black hole with a mass equivalent to a planet is only as dangerous as another planet. It's gravitational effect is roughly the same, and in order to swallow anything it has to collide with it. For collision with small masses like comets, the outcome would be the same if it were a regular planet. For planetary scale collisions, either scenario would be pretty catastrophic.

Aiming for herd immunity via *catching the actual disease* is a ridiculous strategy:
1) You haven't prevented the harm, millions will die and tens of millions will have life long health ramifications.
2) It's not yet proven that you can develop immunity from COVID19.
3) It gives the virus a huge number of hosts in which to replicate and mutate, potentially (or likely?) leading to multiple waves.
