Comment What is requiring the upgrade in hardware? (Score 1) 120

The upgrading for upgrading's sake mentality might still prevail, but is there a real reason to upgrade to a faster, more powerful personal computer nowadays? You can only run Office or a web based office suite so fast, and most PC games are designed with consoles in mind which means gaming PCs don't require extreme power for most games.

Comment Steampunk all analog space station? (Score 1) 202

Given that Russia is going to be a pariah for a long time with sanctions on high-tech equipment, plus whatever tech Russia does acquire will first be grabbed up by the military, I can see Russia launching a steam powered space station controlled by analog computers.

I have no idea if the Steam Punk cosplayers market can support tourists trips to the station.

It's more likely that Musk is bluffing and is instead hoping that TWTR will decide to reach a compromise settlement (take the one billion dollar back-out penalty) instead of taking the chance that a judge/jury will rule that their 5% claim isn't accurate or accurate enough. Of course, in that case, I can see TWTR's shareholders suing TWT for not getting the full buyout offer value.

Comment Or traditional learning is a non-advantage...? (Score 1) 133

So I RTFA, and one potential takeaway is that being dyslexic a) forces you to innovate solutions and/or forces you to work on your other strengths to compensate (the article claims that Churchill was dyslexic and since Churchill managed to excel...,) and/or b) it implies that traditional learning for non-dyslexics is potentially brain numbing, i.e. normals have less impetus to innovate solutions or they tend to group-think since they experience less friction within "normal" society/paradigms. Or it could be c) a case of survivor bias where people who have excelled in spite of having dyslexia are now calling dyslexia a gift (the article does hint that dyslexia could be a real struggle for some people.)

IMHO, it's much more likely that humans will use an AI tool to kill off humanity (as opposed to a sentient AI doing it.) For example, using an AI medical research tool to discover or develop/create a really virulent super plague that gets intentionally or accidentally released.

On an unrelated note.

Late Stage Capitalism: Trump is on course to pocket the "Truth Social" money

You don't make money off of the business plan, you make money off of the investors who believe in the promise of a forthcoming business plan.

"One of Trump’s fellow money-launderers, Patrick Orlando, whom Trump undoubtedly met while participating in Russian money laundering schemes with Deutsche Bank, the world’s foremost money laundering organization, set up a thing called a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC). SPACs are emblematic of the final late stages of capitalism. These are lovingly called “blank check” vehicles. They allow a fraudster, or even a legitimate entrepreneur, to set up a dummy corporation and to sell shares to the public with basically no business plan at all. They simply state they will invest the money in something, sometime. The investors have the right to pull out their money once those prospective investments are revealed."
